Most likely, nobody wakes up in the morning and says to themselves,
"I think I'd like to destroy the planet today with my wardrobe habits!" Unfortunately, we live in a world where clothing is now perceived of as disposable. The fast-fashion industry wants us to keep consuming more and more, until our closets are bursting with items we can barely keep track of. And this industry is very good at concealing the fact that this way of relating to clothing is extremely harmful to the planet, to wildlife, and to the people who make our clothes. Fortunately, there is a LOT that we can do help this situation. And it all starts with just a bit of knowledge! I believe that fashion has a higher purpose, not only to protect us from the elements but also to serve as our chosen skin. When we have the knowledge to choose wisely, our clothes have the power to heal rather than harm the world, and become the good friends they were always meant to be. |
